Delcom are proud to have an excellent relationship with its customers, and Wiltshire County Council are no exception. Delcom Systems have provided and maintained Salisbury's CityWatch radio network since its inception 10 years ago. The system is now one of the country's most successful ShopWatch systems and has a huge uptake from local shops

The concept and core components of the system are very simple. Shops purchase a handheld ShopWatch radio from Delcom, which is programmed on the private ShopWatch licensed frequency owned by the council (Delcom can arrange licences on customers behalf). The councils CCTV control room is fitted with advanced touch screen 2 way radios that allow them to instantly contact any user on the system. In addition, when a user calls in, a map of that users location and a text description (store name) appears immediately on screen to identify the user to the operator.

Should a radio get stolen the CCTV control room are able to remotely permanently 'kill' that radio, or temporarily 'stun' it should it go missing.

During the 10 years it has been live the system has had to grow with demand and a number of cost effective upgrades have been performed. Currently the system comprises of 100+ member handsets, 2 repeaters and even a microwave link. Such is the demand for use of the system that Delcom are now looking at the feasibility of extending radio coverage in the city so that outside industrial estates and neighbouring towns can benefit from the use of CityWatch.

Delcom also provide this particular customer with other radio infrastructure, including those used by the city's parking attendants as well as the local PubWatch system. In this instance Delcom have been able to reduce costs by combing infrastructure of the 3 systems and their respective owners - whilst keeping the channels, maintenance  and usage contracts separate.

In addition to the features currently deployed on this ShopWatch system Delcom are able to offer a number of value add advance features. This includes the ability to automatically point cameras at users when they call (based on advanced GPS positioning) as well as digital ShopWatch and channel recording (audio recording) systems. Using interconnect facilities Delcom system can be integrated with PTT over cellular (PoC systems), telephony systems (including PBX & VoIP), as well as police TETRA radio systems.
