TETRA Systems
TETRA Radio Systems
TETRA offers unrivalled security, features and call quality over DMR systems. Offering multiple voice & data channels, advanced encryption and features such as GPS tracking, telephone interconnect and remote worker functionality.
TETRA Systems In The UK
There are already many commercial TETRA users in the UK - including shopping centres, detention centres, factories and refineries. In addition to private commercial users, the TETRA standard has also been adopted by the UK's 'blue light' services; including Police, Fire, Ambulance, Coastguard and even the Highways agency.
TETRA is still currently the only adaopted standard in the UK that can support both half duplex and full duplex communications.
On-Site TETRA Systems
Whether it's on an oil platform, or a shopping centre, UK on-site TETRA systems offer unparalelled speech quality, excellent reliability and intereference free communications. Whilst TETRA sets can be used 'back to back', without the need for a base, the range of such systems is very limited (typically about the same as a 'licence free' PMR radio). By adding a TETRA base (or TETRA gateway) you can expand coverage of the system so that it equals that of a traditional radio system. Adding additional bases can extend the systems range, although normally well thought out antenna systems are sufficent are sufficient for providing single site coverage using a single gateway.
Wide Area Coverage TETRA Systems
The TETRA stadnard offers built in trunking capabilities, meaning systems can easily be expanded to provide wide area coverage. Whilst licensing in the UK can be difficult for such systems, it is still possible to have a wide area coverage system in some parts of the UK - and much easier off-shore and abroad. Delcom can advise on both equipment and licensing requirements in your area.
How Much Does A TETRA System Cost?
The price of a TETRA system can vary greatly depending on the capacity, coverage and features required. As an example a basic on-site system, comprising of a TETRA gateway that supports up to 4 paths (up to 4 simultaneous conversations) would cost around £12,000. Added to this would be the TETRA handsets, which start from around £300 and are available from manufacturers such as Sepura and Motorola.
